The best way to keep an over enthusiastic toddler from 'helping' (otherwise known as rewashing the already clean parts or quite frankly soaking you with the hose) is to put them in charge of washing their own car!

They'll think it's pretty awesome and super important to be doing their very own job just like Mum or Dad! The sense of responsibility and pride will ooze from them and be shown in their huge smile!
