Hi! Welcome to Play Adventures and thank you for taking the time to find out a little more about me! My name is Alison and I started this blog to share my knowledge and passion for all things play!

About photo.jpg

I am an Early Childhood Educator with over 10 years experience and have taught in 3 continents during my travels around the world. I have worked in Child Care, Out of School Hours Care, Primary Schools and Special Needs Units in London, Peru and my home - Australia. Currently I am a stay at home mum to my two beautiful children, Mr 4 and Miss 2. They inspire me more than anything else and it is because of them that I have opened my own Family Day Care and now invite more children into our home to join our every day adventures.

At Play Adventures you will find simple, meaningful and fun play ideas that nurture imagination and curiosity in childhood. I share activities that we create, products and toys that we use and delve a little deeper into the importance of play to help you understand the reasoning and benefits behind it all.

Whether you are a parent or educator (or both!) you will find that my ideas are inexpensive, simple to create and long lasting. Short of having to create something new every day I also encourage plenty of time for child initiated free play and boredom. In fact that type of play should take up the majority of children's time! My activities are designed to be played with over and over again until the child loses interest, and they should be played with in a way that the child chooses which might be different to the way we intended. I believe that play is simple at it's best and that it should be fun, messy, child-led and open-ended. Children learn from all play even if that learning is not obvious to us, so let them go, let them be and let them play!

* This blog started it's life as 'The Way He Plays' and while that name still remains close to my heart it no longer fit our family life once we welcomed our daughter into the world.
